Rahul sneaks out bailed from defamation case over remarks on Amit Shah

A special court on Tuesday, in Sultanpur granted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi bail in a defamation case from 2018. 

 

Vijay Mishra filed the case on August 4, 2018, in response to remarks Gandhi allegedly made against Home Minister Amit Shah at a press conference in Bengaluru on May 8, 2018, during the Karnataka elections. 

 

The complaint referenced Gandhi's statement, in which he claimed that while the BJP claims a dedication to honest and clean politics, it is led by a party president who is a "accused" in a murder case. Amit Shah was the BJP president when Gandhi made his comment.

 

However, some four years before Gandhi's statement, a special CBI court in Mumbai absolved Shah of charges in a 2005 fake encounter case. This judgement was made while Shah was serving as Gujarat's minister of state for home affairs. 

 

Rahul Gandhi was unable to attend the previous hearing in the special MP-MLA court on January 18 due to his involvement with the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.

 

"The BJP is the biggest party in the country. "Calling its (then) president a murderer is unjustifiable," the complaint, Vijay Mishra, told reporters on Tuesday.
