On Tuesday, the Congress intensified its call for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) inquiry into the ongoing controversy surrounding the Adani Group, Hindenburg Research's allegations, and the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). The party’s move comes in response to claims made by the US-based short seller Hindenburg and accusations against SEBI Chairperson Madhabi Buch.

"In FY 2023-24 India's gold imports totaled USD 45.4 billion, rising by almost 30 per cent from the previous year. It is hardly debatable that gold imports add very little to economic growth. Yet, the 2024/25 budget reduced import duty on gold from 10 per cent to 6 per cent," Congress spokesperson Jairam Ramesh said.
