The state emergency operation centre reports 48 roads shut in Shimla, 24 each in Mandi and Kullu, and others in various districts, with 91 power and 36 water supply schemes disrupted.

At least 3 died in 35 landslides during the same period, with Mandi reporting the highest number of landslides.

Of this, 89 roads were closed in Shimla, 42 in Sirmaur, 37 in Mandi, 26 in Kullu, six in Kangra, five in Chamba, and four each in Kinnaur and Lahaul & Spiti, cites the State Emergency Operation Centre. 

Despite the challenges, there are some glimmers of hope. Around 300 people stranded near Shrikhand Mahadev in Kullu are safe, 25 tourists in Malana are being well looked after by locals, according to Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena. These small mercies offer some comfort amidst the larger tragedy.

According to the data from the state centre, 21 died after falling from heights, 18 due to accidental drowning, eight each due to snake bites and electrocution while one died in a flash flood.

"Three houses have been washed away while one is endangered," he said.

According to an official statement issued by the tourism department, the state saw the arrival of 1,00,87,440 tourists from January to June this year as compared to 1,00,06,743 tourists in the same period last year.

Amid gusty weather of strong winds and waterlogging in Himachal's low-lying areas, the public has also been cautioned about the damage to plantations and standing crops, vulnerable structures, and 'kutcha' houses.  

A recent incident in Raitua village, Sirmaur district, involved a cloudburst that swept away a 48-year-old man, Aman Singh, who was trying to save his cowshed.

The weather office has cautioned that the heavy rains may cause damage to plantations, horticulture, and standing crops, as well as vulnerable structures, kutcha houses, and huts.

Intermittent rains have already lashed parts of the state since Sunday evening, with Sundernagar recording the highest rainfall at 36.8 mm, followed by Mandi, Pandoh, and other areas.

During the early winter months of 2023-24 (October to November), the Chenab, Beas, and Sutlej basins showed negative trends in snow cover, whereas the Ravi basin showed a marginal increase, reflecting a positive trend.
