Heavy rains continue in Himachal, 'yellow alert' extended

Amid gusty weather of strong winds and waterlogging in Himachal's low-lying areas, the public has also been cautioned about the damage to plantations and standing crops, vulnerable structures, and 'kutcha' houses.

A 'yellow alert' has been again issued for the hill state of Himachal Pradesh following heavy rain pouring at isolated places. The alert issued on Wednesday by the MeT is till July 28 for the state. 

 

Amid gusty weather of strong winds and waterlogging in Himachal's low-lying areas, the public has also been cautioned about the damage to plantations and standing crops, vulnerable structures, and 'kutcha' houses.  

 

Intermittent rain continued to lash parts of the state, with Baijnath recording 85 mm of rainfall since Tuesday evening, followed by Palampur (25.2 mm), Jogindernagar (18 mm), Dharamshala (10.4 mm), Poanta Sahib (7.6 mm), Sainj and Kahu (7.5 mm each), Kasauli (7.4 mm) and Shimla (5.6 mm), according to the Meteorological Centre, Shimla. 

 

The ongoing monsoon season in Himachal Pradesh has so far taken 47 lives in rain-related incidents, with the state suffering a huge loss of approximately Rs 364 crore, the emergency operation centre revealed.
