Bengal Governor Bose offers refuge to 'tortured' women in Sandeshkhali

West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose on Saturday extended a hand of support to the women of Sandeshkhali, assuring them shelter and security within the Raj Bhavan if they felt unsafe in their homes.

 

Declaring himself the "Rakhi brother" of the women, Governor Bose declared, "Doors of Raj Bhavan are open for victimised women who can come and stay here. We will provide them shelter, food, and security."

 

Women facing threats were encouraged to contact the dedicated "Peace Room" at Raj Bhavan by dialling 033-22001641 for immediate assistance.

 

Governor Bose affirmed, "Our Peace Room is always open, and any victim from Sandeshkhali can call to lodge any complaint."

 

Notably, Raj Bhavan had previously served as a refuge for individuals facing threats during the volatile panchayat elections last year.

 

When questioned about potentially returning to Sandeshkhali, Governor Bose stated, "At the moment, the well-being of Sandeshkhali is my top priority. I will visit the place again if it is required."

 

Following his initial visit to Sandeshkhali, Governor Bose described the situation as "ghastly, shocking, and shattering."

 

He is believed to have submitted a report to the Union Home Ministry outlining the concerns of the locals.

 

The report highlights the local residents' demand for a Special Investigation Team to probe the allegations and recommends a judicial inquiry into the matter.
