Justice Jay Sengupta ordered that no coercive steps be taken against her and other petitioners till June 14 by the police in the suo motu case lodged by it on May 12 over protests held in front of Sandeshkhali police station.

Patra, who has been fielded by the BJP from Basirhat, said TMC workers attacked her while she was campaigning for LS polls.

Dividing their efforts, the CBI contingent diligently visited residences in the Sundarikhali area of Sandeshkhali, engaging with victims individually to meticulously document their grievances, the official disclosed.

Accusing the BJP of politicising the issue, Banerjee vehemently defended her Trinamool Congress (TMC) government's actions in addressing the reported cases of sexual abuse.

The petitioner, lawyer Priyanka Tibrewal, presented compelling evidence before the court, including numerous affidavits alleging sexual assault and other atrocities. 

The villagers gheraoed the village chief and the contractor alleging that they were stealing the materials like bricks meant for a development project, sources said.

However, despite the court setting a deadline of 4.15 PM, the handover from the state agency occurred at approximately 6:48 PM.

“The buses were first stopped at the Biswa Bangla Gate in New Town, and then again at Airport Gate 1 on the way to Barasat, citing security protocol. The police are trying to stop us from going to the PM’s rally,” a BJP leader on one of the buses alleged.

Reacting sharply to Modi’s jibe that Raja Ramohan Roy’s soul would be crying in view of alleged sexual assault on Sandeshkhali’s women, the TMC claimed that the social reformer’s soul was crying rather because of alleged atrocities on women in BJP-ruled states like Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Manipur.
