West Bengal records 45% turnout in 9 seats by 1 pm

Over 45% voter turnout was recorded in nine Lok Sabha seats by 1 pm in the seventh and final phase of elections in West Bengal, according to an Election Commission official. Polling commenced at 7 am and will continue until 6 pm.

 

The Basirhat constituency saw the highest turnout at 50.89%, followed by Jaynagar at 48.27%, Barasat at 47.49%, Diamond Harbour at 47.33%, and Mathurapur at 47.03%.

 

Other constituencies also witnessed significant participation: Jadavpur at 43.25%, Dum Dum at 41.09%, Kolkata Dakshin at 39.70%, and Kolkata Uttar at 39.48%.

 

In the Baranagar assembly by-poll, the polling percentage stood at 41.10% by 1 pm. The Election Commission received 1,899 complaints by this time.

 

A total of 1,63,40,345 voters, including 80,20,326 women and 538 third-gender individuals, are eligible to vote across 17,470 polling stations.

 

For this phase, the EC has deployed 967 companies of central forces and over 33,000 state police personnel to ensure smooth polling.
