Phogat, who had returned from the Paris Olympics, was given a grand reception following the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) ruling that upheld her disqualification from the gold medal match.

Phogat had to stay back in Paris after she had appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport for a joint silver which was eventually dismissed on Wednesday.

The ad-hoc division of the CAS turned down Vinesh's appeal against her disqualification from the 50kg final at the Paris Olympics due to being 100gm overweight.

IOA President PT Usha expressed her "shock and disappointment" at the CAS ruling, which upheld the decision in favour of United World Wrestling (UWW) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

The ad-hoc division of the CAS on Wednesday dismissed wrestler Vinesh Phogat’s appeal against her disqualification from the women’s 50kg freestyle final of the Olympic games. 

While some media reports claim that the ad hoc division of CAS has extended time till 6 pm on August 11, 2024. However, reasoned order will be made public at a later date, which is likely to be August 13, says IOA source.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) is set to deliver its verdict on the appeal filed by Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat regarding her disqualification from the Olympic finals. The decision is expected by 6 pm local time (9:30 pm IST) today, August 10, 2024.

Senior Advocate Rahul Mehra, representing several of India’s top wrestlers, including Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia, and Sakshi Malik, praised the government’s decision to involve one of the country’s leading legal experts in Vinesh Phogat’s case. He called it a significant step forward, especially as Vinesh's plea against her disqualification is set to be heard by the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) on Friday.

The hearing for Vinesh Phogat's appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) is expected to commence at approximately 9:30 am Paris time, which translates to around 1 pm IST on August 9 (Friday).

The 30-year-old Hildebrandt, who won a bronze in the Tokyo Games, said she did not spot Vinesh at the weigh-in and, for a while, thought that the Indian had forfeited.

During the morning session on Thursday, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar temporarily left the House after the Opposition party members walked out in protest of not being allowed to discuss Vinesh Phogat's disqualification from the Olympics. 

Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat has announced her retirement from the sport, just a day after her disqualification from the Paris Olympics 2024. The decision comes as a heartbreaking end to her career, following a disqualification that prevented her from competing in the women's 50 kg freestyle wrestling event.
