AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi is ahead of his nearest BJP rival, K. Madhavi Latha, in the Hyderabad parliamentary constituency.  After the fourth round of counting, Owaisi leads with 46,891 votes, while Madhavi Latha has 20,150 votes. The BJP candidate received 92,831 votes.

Voters queued up Monday for the by-election to the Telangana Legislative Council from the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Graduates' constituency. Polling began at 8 a.m. and will close at 4 p.m., officials said.

A section of leaders in Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), which lost power in Telangana in the recent elections, argue that the party’s rechristened name failed to resonate with the voters. It should be reverted to its original name, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), to regain its identity and glory, they demand.

Y S Sharmila, founder of YSR Telangana party and younger sister of Andhra CM Jagan Mohan Reddy, had previously expressed her support for the Congress.

The Telangana model too is aimed at roping in civil society members and experts from various fields. To begin with, the advisory council, headed by the Chief Minister, will make suggestions pertaining to education, and employment sectors.

Former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao was on Saturday elected as the leader of the BRS Legislature Party in the new Assembly.
