Located near National Highway 44 and bordering Haryana, Shambhu first gained national attention in 2020 when farmers protesting against three central farm laws broke through barricades at the Shambhu border to march towards Delhi. 

Tenzing Norbu Lamtha, representing the Syari Constituency, met with Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang at his official residence in Mintokgang before announcing his decision.

The rally is expected to witness the participation of over 1 lakh farmers from more than 20 states to exert pressure on the NDA government to enact an MSP (Minimum Support Price) guarantee law for farmers.

In a statement, Bhutia extended his congratulations to Sikkim Chief Minister P S Tamang and the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) for their resounding victory in the assembly elections. 

Tamang, leader of the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM), was sworn in for his second term as chief minister at Paljor Stadium in Gangtok on Monday.

SKM grabbed a toal of 31 of the 32 assembly seats, alongside winning the lone Lok Sabha seat for the state.

Led by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, the party won 31 of the 32 Assembly seats.

Chief Minister and SKM candidate Prem Singh Tamang was leading by around 6,443 votes over his nearest SDF rival Som Nath Poudyal from the Rhenock assembly constituency.

The voter turnout of 67.95 per cent was 10 per cent lower than the 78.63 per cent votes cast in the 2019 assembly polls in the Himalayan state, officials said.

Chamling, a five-time CM for Sikkim was reportedly canvassing for SDF's Namchi-Singhithang candidate Bimal Rai at Namchi Bazar when the altercation unfolded. 

The manifesto is based on nine guarantees for social uplift - dignity, capability, good governance, education, health, empowerment, pride, prosperity and social equality.

"The resolution appeals for issue-based larger unity of all the Kisan platforms and organisations. It stresses the need for further discussions among the respective kisan organisations and platforms and following the right path and right thinking adopted in the successful united farmers' struggle in Delhi as still the right path leading to victory," the SKM said.
