The Indian boxing team, which included two current world champions, Nikhat Zareen and Lovlina Borgohain, entered the Olympics with hopes of winning multiple medals but struggled under pressure, resulting in a disappointing campaign without any medals.

Many world champions pugilists have found themselves loosing medals in the world’s major sports events that is- quadrennial Olympics.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) supported the boxers' right to compete, citing their female passports as sufficient proof of eligibility.

Zareen was all defensive in the first round bearing a series of punched from Wu, while her every counter-attacking jab was easily avoided by the Chinese. With a solid right hand punch from Wu in the end of the first round had the Chinese a lead of 4-1.

The match sided Borgohain in the second round as well, though Hofstad did put in some defence moves, but it was done for her as this time aggression was shown from Borgohain.

The two-time world champion Zareen, earned unanimous decision in her first match against a rather aggressive Kloetzer who intended to run ragged Nikhat in the opening set which saw German in the lead by 2-3.
