The BJP fielded only one Muslim candidate, in Mallapuram, M. Abdul Salam, who finished third. And no minority candidate from the NDA allies got elected to the 18th Lok Sabha.

This sets the stage for forming the next government after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured a narrow majority in the recent elections.

The BJP maintained its 2019 seat count in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Tripura but saw a decline in Manipur. Additionally, its allies in these three states also experienced setbacks.

According to data available with the Rajya Sabha Secretariat, the BJP, which currently has 94 members, gained two seats in the Upper House in the just concluded elections, pushing its own strength to 96.

A meeting was held at former CM Jitan Ram Manjhi’s residence on Saturday. And speculations have been rife that Yadav’s father Lalu Prasad, the RJD supremo, would put to use his resourcefulness to turn the tables on the NDA during the trust vote.

“For too long, the salaried and middle classes have been ignored. The successive budgets did precious little for these sections, though the BJP counts on their support in the elections,” said B Srinivasa Rao, an official in the state irrigation department.
