The BJD urged the Commission to take prompt action to ensure a free, fair, transparent, and healthy election in Odisha.

The Trinamool Congress on Thursday lodged a complaint with the Election Commission against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bharatiya Janata Party’s Krishnanagar candidate, Amrita Roy, for alleged violations of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), a claim denied as baseless by the saffron camp.

In a letter addressed to the chief election commissioner on Monday, TMC Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien said a message by the PM highlighting his government’s programmes reached the electorate on March 16, after the model code of conduct came into force.

State Congress President Bhupen Kumar Borah and TMC State Chief Ripun Bora separately wrote to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar expressing their concerns.

With the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) revealing election dates, the window for major policy decisions has narrowed significantly, necessitating prior consent from the election authorities for certain actions. 

“Pattern of past MCC (Model Code of Conduct) violations will prepare the ground for civilised campaigning during the Lok Sabha elections. There should be a responsibility on star campaigners for maintaining decorum,” said Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar.

On March 22 students union election to take place in Jawaharlal Nehru University. Counting of votes will take place on March 24, following which results will be declared.
