With campaigning for the final phase of Lok Sabha elections concluding on Thursday, the BJP and JMM are readying for the final fight in the Santhal region of Jharkhand, where the prestige of both parties is at stake.

Nestled between Kolkata and the South 24 Parganas district, Diamond Harbour holds a strategic stronghold in Bengal's politics.

Shiromani Akali Dal's Ranjit Singh Dhillion, Aam Aadmi Party's Ashok Prashar Pappi, and Bahujan Samaj Party's Davinder Singh Ramgharia are also contesting for the seat. 

The constituency has come into focus with jailed radical preacher Amritpal contesting independently against the traditional parties including the Shiromani Akali Dal, the Aam Aadmi Party, the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party. He is getting a lot of traction and is considered to be a favourite to win from here.  

The battle line here is drawn between the NC and PDP. However, the inclusion of the BJP-backed Apni Party candidate Zafar Minhas Iqbal has further spiced up the contest.
