On Wednesday, Dilip Ghosh submitted his nomination papers for Bardhaman-Durgapur, having been moved from his previous seat, Medinipur, where he served as MP.

Two petitions for CBI and NIA probes into clashes in Baharampur, Murshidabad, were heard. The court stated that during the Model Code of Conduct, if clashes persist, elected representatives become unnecessary as elections would only exacerbate the issue.

A break-up of votes in the region by 9 am showed over 9.30 per cent of voters exercising their franchise in Gaya Lok Sabha constituency, 9.12 per cent in Jamui, 6.01 in Aurangabad and 6.15 per cent in Nawada in the first two hours of voting.

Polling for the 543 seats to elect the 18th Lok Sabha will occur over seven phases, with vote counting scheduled for June 4.

The meeting will be held at the Election Commission headquarters.

The Congress had unveiled 10 candidates on March 12, while the BJP had declared 15 candidates by the same date. Notably, the Congress has opted to reserve the Sikar parliamentary seat for the Communist Party of India (Marxist). All the five Congress candidates are newcomers to Lok Sabha elections.
