The gunfight took place for a brief period when police assisted by Army and paramilitary forces launched a search operation in Nownatta, Naageni Peyaas and adjoining areas following information about movement of terrorists.

The Army's Srinagar-based Chinar Corps, in a post on X, said, "Based on specific intelligence input, a joint operation was launched by the Indian Army, @JmuKmrPolice & @crpf_srinagar today in general area Kokernag, Anantnag. Contact was established and a firefight ensued."

As the forces neared the suspected location, terrorists opened fire, leading to an exchange of gunfire. The intermittent exchange of fire continued as per the latest reports.

An unidentified terrorist was killed, and a soldier was injured during an anti-terror operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district on Monday. A cow was also killed in the encounter.

Some terrorists were believed to be trapped as gunfights continued in two villages in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district.

The terrorists opened fire from their mud house hideout when police forces supported by security personnel initiated search operations in the Sinoo panchayat.

The gunfight began at around 9:50 am in Bajaad village in the Gandoh area, during an intensified search and cordon operation conducted by the police alongside the Army and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

The search operation turned into an encounter after the militants fired on a search party of the forces, who then fired back, the official said.

Local media quoting reliable sources said the infiltration attempt was foiled in the Tangdhar area when Army personnel at the LoC spotted the men and confronted them early in the morning on Tuesday.
