The police investigation, relied upon by the ED to frame the case, found Kandola allegedly supplied drugs to various locations in Punjab, Delhi, and other major cities nationwide.

The ED filed a charge sheet against 23 accused in this case in 2015 out of which two were declared proclaimed offenders while four died (resulting in abatement of proceedings) during investigation or trial, the sources said.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah recently emphasised the need for a "ruthless" approach towards the drug supply chain in India. During the 7th Apex Level Meeting of the Narco-Coordination Center (NCORD) in New Delhi, Shah directed central and state agencies to ensure no drugs enter the country and to prevent India’s borders from being used for drug trafficking.

The government has launched a new portal to combat drug abuse among children. This initiative is aimed at creating a robust monitoring system to prevent the sale of contraband around schools and to raise awareness among students and teachers.

The DGP said further investigations are going on to establish linkages in this case. 

Chairing a meeting of the officers of the civil and police administration, the CS laid stress on identifying drug hotspots in Punjab and taking strict action against the chemists selling banned drugs, an official release said.

Over 85 people, including Telugu film actresses, tested positive for narcotics, police sources said.

Surveillance was conducted on Enani, Rajpurohit, and their associates, leading to raids on the units located in Sirohi and Jodhpur in Rajasthan, as well as Piplaj village in Gandhinagar and the Bhaktinagar industrial area of Amreli district in Gujarat.

According to data, various law enforcement agencies, including the Punjab Police and BSF, seized drugs worth Rs 213.07 crore, liquor worth Rs 13.83 crore, cash worth Rs 6 crore and valuable and other items worth Rs 10.3 crore.
