Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu announced on Friday that an investigation has been launched into the canopy collapse incident at Delhi Airport’s Terminal 1. Heavy rain caused a portion of the canopy to collapse early Friday morning, resulting in the death of one person and injuries to several others.

In response to this unfortunate event, Union Minister of Civil Aviation K Ram Mohan Naidu announced a compensation of Rs 20 lakh for the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 3 lakh each for the injured.

The boy had sent the mail “just for fun” after being influenced by the news of another teenager who made a hoax bomb threat call a few days ago, said police.

The notices are about flight diversions that happened due to the airlines not deploying pilots trained to operate in low visibility conditions, officials said.

As many as 164 planes are lying idle at 15 airports in the country, the government said on Thursday.

Full body scanners are expected to be installed at the Delhi airport by May 2024
