"In yet another gesture of extending a helping hand to Kerala, PM Modi's Government offers assistance for a Rs 200 crore project under the Urban Flood Mitigation Programme for Thiruvananthapuram, the Pinarayi Vijayan government must now act by submitting a proposal for Thiruvananthapuram. The deadline for this proposal is the end of May 2024," Chandrasekhar wrote.

On May 5, the hailstorm caused extensive damage, affecting over 15,400 houses and hectares of agricultural land. In response, the state government released Rs 6.90 crore for relief efforts.

"We don't take sufficient advantage of our (India's) federal structure; we have traditionally ended up relying too much on the Centre," Lahiri remarked during a session at the 4th Columbia India Summit held by Columbia University in New York.
