Five security personnel, including two from Nagaland, have died in the last one week in Rohtas, and of them, four died due to heatstroke, said DIG Naveen Chandra Jha.

The Supreme Court on Friday refused to entertain a plea seeking directions to the Election Commission of India for re-polling in the Munger parliamentary constituency of Bihar. The plea alleged that booth capturing had occurred with the connivance of the local administration.

Voting began at 7 am in the constituencies of Valmiki Nagar, Pashchim Champaran, Purvi Champaran, Sheohar, Siwan, Gopalganj, Maharajganj, and Vaishali. The polls will continue until 6 pm, they added.

The district police have since transferred Ashwani Kumar Tiwari, the officer in charge of the City Police Station, to a non-sensitive post due to "dereliction of duty" following the violent episode, officials confirmed.

Polling commenced at 7 am in Begusarai, Ujiarpur, Samastipur, Munger and Darbhanga and will continue till 6 pm, a senior official said.

The constituencies going to the polls in the third phase are Araria, Jhanjharpur, Supaul, Madhepura and Khagaria, all currently held by the NDA.
