The Supreme Court declined to grant Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal temporary bail in a corruption case brought by the CBI in connection with the alleged excise policy scam.

Although the Supreme Court had previously granted interim bail to Kejriwal in this case, he remains in custody at Tihar Jail as he has not furnished the required bail bond.

Justice Neena Bansal Krishna dismissed Kejriwal’s plea challenging his arrest, holding that it cannot be said it was without any justifiable reason.

The Delhi High Court has reserved its decision on Arvind Kejriwal's plea for two additional legal meetings with his lawyers via video conferencing from jail. Kejriwal's request was contested by both the jail authorities and the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Justice Neena Bansal Krishna heard the arguments from both sides before reserving the order. Senior advocate Ramesh Gupta represented Kejriwal in the proceedings.

The chief minister, however, will continue to remain in jail because the CBI detained him later in connection with a corruption allegation concerning the purported excise policy scandal.

Kejriwal, also the national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), contested his arrest and subsequent remand in CBI custody for three days, as ordered by a trial court on June 26.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) lodged a challenge against Kejriwal's bail just as he was set to be released from Tihar jail.

The arrest of Kejriwal stemmed from an alleged money laundering scheme linked to a now-defunct liquor policy.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking a seven-day extension of his interim bail on medical grounds in connection with the alleged liquor policy case, as announced by the Aam Aadmi Party on Monday.

A bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta refused to consider claims and counters of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Kejriwal's lawyer on statements made related to the interim bail to the Aam Aadmi Party national convenor.
