From an election rally in West Bengal, PM Modi made his maiden remark on Rahul Gandhi contesting LS polls from Raebareli.

Kishori Lal Sharma, a close aide of the Gandhi family, has been fielded from the Amethi Lok Sabha seat, the grand old party said in a statement. 

The sources said the party has started making preparations for the nomination filing in both seats, which have been traditionally held by members of the Gandhi-Nehru family. 

Just one day before the nomination deadline. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge is expected to announce the candidates for the two seats today. 

With this, the Congress has announced candidates for all the nine seats it is contesting in Haryana, which sends 10 members to the Lower House of Parliament.

Party leaders urge Kharge to field none but Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi from Amethi and Raebareli.

"On Amethi, the party will decide. Whatever order I get, I will abide by that. In our party, these decisions are taken in the CEC (Central Election Committee) meeting." 

A former actress and a former journalist battle it out for a constituency which was once a pocket borough of the Gandhi family but has lately been springing surprises and giving into an anti-incumbency factor.
