In response to the presence of froth in the highly polluted Yamuna river in Delhi, the AAP government requested the Centre to direct Haryana and UP on Friday to prevent industries there from discharging untreated waste into the river.
The government is troubled by the abrupt increase in pollution levels in Yamuna and has implemented "urgent measures" to address the situation, the ruling AAP stated.
"This problem has occurred suddenly due to excessive industrial waste being released from UP and Haryana and entering Delhi through the River Yamuna," it claimed.
The AAP has urged the Centre to promptly implement measures to prevent industries in the two states from discharging their waste into the Yamuna without appropriate treatment.
The party emphasised that, unlike residents of other states, people in Delhi rely entirely on the river for their daily needs, making it the city's lifeline.
"Ever since BJP has come to power in the Centre, it has been creating hurdles for the people of Delhi," charged AAP, saying that the Centre should issue strict directions to UP and Haryana governments to immediately "ban" such polluting industries.
