PMLA court to rule on Hemant Soren’s bail plea on May 13

The special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court is set to announce its decision regarding the regular bail of former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on May 13.

 

Soren’s bail plea was deliberated upon in the court of PMLA Special Judge Rajiv Ranjan on Saturday. Both Hemant Soren and the Enforcement Directorate submitted written responses regarding regular bail.

 

Following arguments from both sides, the court decided to reserve its judgment.

 

The former Jharkhand chief minister has been in judicial custody at Birsa Munda Central Jail since January 31, subsequent to his arrest by the ED in connection to a land scam case associated with money laundering.

 

This case pertains to an alleged scam involving 8.86 acres of land in a posh area of Ranchi. During the previous hearing, the court instructed both parties to submit written responses. Hemant Soren, through his legal representative, filed a bail petition on April 15, 75 days post his arrest.

 

He was arrested by the ED late in the evening on January 31 and presented before the court on February 1. Subsequently, the court remanded him to judicial custody, and he has remained at Birsa Munda Central Jail since then.
