The flood situation in Assam remains dire, with over 3.90 lakh people still affected despite a slight respite from receding rainfall, officials reported on Saturday.
Nineteen districts continue to grapple with the aftermath of flooding, landslides, and storms, which have claimed 37 lives and left one person missing.
While the number of those impacted has slightly decreased from 4.09 lakh on Thursday, the extent of the crisis remains significant.
Karimganj is the worst-hit district, with over 2.40 lakh residents affected. Other severely impacted districts include Kamrup, Tamulpur, Hailakandi, Udalguri, Hojai, Dhubri, Barpeta, Biswanath, Nalbari, Bongaigaon, Baksa, South Salmara, Goalpara, Darrang, Bajali, Nagaon, Cachar, and Kamrup Metropolitan.
Major rivers continue to flow above the danger mark, including the Kopili at Kampur and Dharamtul, Barak at BP Ghat, and Kushiyara in Karimganj.
In response to the crisis, authorities have established over 100 relief camps housing more than 15,000 people, alongside 125 relief distribution centres.
The floodwaters have caused extensive damage to homes, cattle sheds, roads, bridges, and embankments, severely affecting the state's infrastructure.
While some parts of Assam experienced a slight improvement due to decreased rainfall, the overall situation remains grim as the state struggles to recover from the devastating impact of the floods.
