The Indian javelin throw champion and Tokyo gold medalist Neeraj Chopra progressed to the final of the men's javelin throw competition after delivering an outstanding performance in the qualifying round.

Neeraj Chopra, the defending champion, advanced to the men's javelin throw final at the Olympic Games with an impressive season's best throw of 89.34m on Tuesday.

 

Similar to his performance in the Tokyo Olympics, the 26-year-old surpassed the automatic qualifying mark of 84m with his first throw.

 

Kishore Jena, the other Indian competitor, is unlikely to secure a spot in the 12-man final after achieving a best throw of 80.73m.

 

Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan, who is the reigning Commonwealth Games champion, also secured a spot in the finals with a throw of 86.59m.
