Reservations necessary as long as needed, says RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat

Mohan Bhagwat, the chief Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), reiterated on Sunday that the Sangh Parivar has never opposed reservations for specific groups in society.

Speaking at an event hosted by an educational institution, Bhagwat emphasised the Sangh's stance that reservations should be upheld for as long as they are deemed necessary.

Bhagwat's remarks come amid an ongoing exchange of words between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress party regarding the issue of reservations.

Last year in Nagpur, Bhagwat said that reservations should continue as long as there is discrimination in society. Discrimination exists in society even though it is invisible, he had said.

The RSS, a right-wing Hindu nationalist organization, has often been viewed as influential within the BJP, which currently leads the Indian government.

The issue of reservations, particularly for marginalized communities, remains a contentious topic in Indian politics, with ongoing debates surrounding its effectiveness and scope in addressing historical inequalities.
