7 dead in Ambala-Delhi highway bus-truck crash

Seven members of a family, including an infant, were killed and 20 injured when a minibus collided with a truck near Ambala early on Friday, police said.

 

The bus was carrying 30 people, all relatives, from Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr when it collided with the truck near Mohra village on the Ambala-Delhi Highway.

 

The passengers were headed for the Vaishno Devi shrine in Jammu and Kashmir, police said. 

 

Seven of them, including a six-month girl, died and 20 were injured as the impact of the collision left the front part of the minibus completely mangled.

 

Most of the passengers were pulled out of the wrecked bus by passers-by and the injured admitted to two hospitals close by, PTI reported.

 

The bodies were kept in a mortuary for post-mortem examination.

 

The truck driver fled from the spot, leaving behind his vehicle. A case has been registered against him and search for him was continuing, police said.

 

One of the injured persons told reporters that the passengers were members of a family and had left for the Vaishno Devi shrine on Thursday evening.
