Dalit Activist Dr Ritu Singh is BSP's nominee for Chandigarh LS seat

Activist and Scholar Dr Ritu Singh is the Bahujan Samaj Party - BSP's nominee for the Chandigarh parliamentary constituency for the Lok Sabha elections scheduled for June 1.  

 

Singh hails from Tarn Taran, Amritsar, and remained in the headlines for her protest in front of Delhi University which lasted for over 200 days.  

 

Singh is an Indian Dalit rights activist.

 

Besides this, Singh was also involved in Kaumi Insaf Morcha which was staged for the release of Sikh prisoners at the Chandigarh-Mohali border. 

 

After her protest, Singh, who set up a pakoda stall named PhD Pakode Wali outside the Art Faculty, DU, faces charges under IPC Section 283. 

 

Supporters including students, civil societies, and Bhim Army demand justice, rallying behind her cry for "naukri nahi nyay chahiye" (justice, not just a job).
