The Madras High Court recently heard a plea from K Porkodi, the wife of slain Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Tamil Nadu Chief K Armstrong, seeking permission to bury his body at the BSP office in Chennai.

BSP chief Mayawati has announced her nephew Akash Anand as the national coordinator and her successor. This decision was confirmed by party leader Lal Ji Medhankar, who stated, "BSP chief Mayawati has announced Akash Anand as her successor. Akash Anand will take charge as the national coordinator."

BSP chief Mayawati convened a crucial meeting to analyse the party's poor performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. This meeting, held in Lucknow, was attended by district-level officials, senior party leaders, and workers from across the state.

Currently, the BSP has garnered about 1.92 per cent votes in the country and 9.16 per cent votes in Uttar Pradesh, as per Election Commission data.

Taking to X, she said her brother and Akash’s father Anand Kumar will continue to fulfil his responsibilities as before.

Singh hails from Tarn Taran, Amritsar, and remained in the headlines for her protest in front of Delhi University which lasted for over 200 days.  

Following this latest announcement, the BSP has revealed about 50 candidates for the upcoming elections in Uttar Pradesh. However, the party has made candidate alterations in more than twelve seats across the state.

Polling for 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab will be held in the last phase on June 1.  

BSP leader Mayawati has vowed to champion the cause of a separate state for western Uttar Pradesh and push for the establishment of a bench of the Allahabad High Court in Meerut if her party secures power at the Centre.

Mayawati expressed concern over the dire state of the Muslim minority, citing a pervasive atmosphere of fear and panic caused by the BJP and Sangh.

BSP chief Mayawati criticized the SP for fielding Hindus in “Muslim-dominated constituencies” and stated that unlike the SP, the BSP has given proper representation in ticket allocation to members of the 'Sarv Samaj'.

Mayawati emphasized her party's commitment to addressing the needs of various socio-economic groups, including the poor, laborers, farmers, and small business owners, upon ascending to power at the national level. She articulated her vision for equitable development, promising that the BSP administration would prioritize the welfare of these segments to bolster the progress of the region.
