BSF officer removed from poll duty over molestation complaint in WB

The Election Commission on Monday removed a BSF personnel from poll duty in the Uluberia Lok Sabha constituency following a molestation complaint lodged against him, officials confirmed.

 

The incident came to light when a woman filed a molestation complaint at Uluberia Police Station on Sunday evening. 

 

"We have removed him from election duty. We are waiting for the police report. If found guilty, necessary action will be taken as per law," a poll panel official stated.

 

The fifth phase of the Lok Sabha elections commenced across seven parliamentary constituencies in West Bengal on Monday under tight security. 

 

The Election Commission has classified over 57 per cent of the polling stations as sensitive, deploying more than 60,000 central forces personnel, alongside around 30,000 policemen.

 

This deployment of security forces is the highest for any phase of the elections in the state so far, the official added.
