Delhi Airport acts to prevent bird strikes

Delhi airport operator DIAL announced on Friday that its wildlife hazard management team is implementing various measures to reduce bird strikes on the airfield.

 

The Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), led by the GMR Group consortium, recently conducted an awareness campaign in the Rangpuri Pahari area near the airport. The aim was to educate the local community about the risks of wildlife strikes, especially bird strikes.

 

Rangpuri Pahari, situated along the approach path of runway 29L/11R, was the focus of the campaign due to the increasing incidents of bird strikes observed there, particularly during the monsoon season.

 

DIAL emphasised that its dedicated Wildlife Hazard Management (WHM) team is actively involved in implementing various mitigation measures to minimize bird strikes within the airfield perimeter.

 

According to a statement, routine surveys are carried out within a 10-kilometer radius around the airfield to identify and remove bird attractants in collaboration with civic agencies.

 

Earlier this month, an Emirates flight from Dubai collided with a flock of flamingos, resulting in the deaths of approximately 40 birds at Mumbai Airport. Despite sustaining damages, the aircraft managed to land safely.
