The announcement was made by state Revenue Minister K Rajan who is part of a Cabinet sub-committee currently camped out close to the disaster areas to assess the situation there.

As many as 2,514 people belonging to 723 families are in the camps. Among them, 943 are male, 972 are female, and 599 are children, the CMO said.

In the wake of the recent devastating landslides in Wayanad, Kerala, Congress MP Jebi Mather has called for the disaster to be declared a national emergency. The landslides, which struck Mundakkai and Chooralmala early on July 30, caused severe destruction and numerous casualties, according to reports from the Kerala Revenue Department.

At least 277 individuals lost their lives, and over 200 sustained injuries in the recent devastating landslides in Wayanad, according to multiple reports. It is anticipated that these numbers will rise as rescue efforts continue to uncover more casualties.
