Interim vice-chancellor of Calcutta University Shanta Dutta was gheraoed as she chaired a meeting of the varsity’s highest decision-making body even as her term has ended.

A search committee will be set up by the apex court for appointing vice-chancellors of universities. It would send names of candidates to the chief minister and not the governor.

The bench, however, refused to pass an interim order with respect to the decisions taken by the current Officiating VC Professor Mohammed Shakeel.
