In response to recent tragic events and the Supreme Court's directive to ensure healthcare professionals' safety, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has urged central government-run hospitals to bolster their security measures. This move comes following the rape and murder of a resident doctor at Kolkata’s R G Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9.

The ministry assured that the committee would include input from all relevant stakeholders, including state governments, to address the concerns raised by the medical community.

Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda addressing the Lok Sabha on Monday, stated, "In 2013-14, the budget was Rs 33,278 crore, and today it stands at Rs 90,958 crore, marking an increase of 164% . This demonstrates our prioritisation of the health sector."

Nadda, who was also allocated the Chemicals and Fertilisers Ministry, took his oath as a cabinet minister a day earlier in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government.
