Home Secretary Yvette Cooper told The Sunday Telegraph that she has ordered the review into the government’s counter-extremism strategy amid fears that extremist ideologies online and on the streets of the country have been on the rise.

Issuing a stern violence to the rioters, said to be far-right groups, Keir Starmer posted: “Be in no doubt: Those who have participated in this violence will face the full force of the law."

Violent protests included a mosque being attacked in Southport – the site of Monday's stabbings in north-west England, several police officers injured, objects hurled and vehicles set on fire as the unrest spread around the country to Downing Street in London.
