MoS V K Singh on Thursday shared insights on the "extraordinary" rescue operation carried out to save 41 labourers from the Silkyara tunnel in Uttarkashi.

Gabbar Singh Negi's house in the Lalpani area of the town suddenly came to life on Tuesday night as the news about of the safe evacuation of 41 workers trapped at Sikyara tunnel reached his kin who had been glued to the TV set waiting the whole day for the good news.

The 4.5 kilometres long Silkyara tunnel project in Uttarakhand, which is part of the central government's strategic 900-km 'Char Dham Yatra All Weather Road', will continue after the necessary safety audit and repair of the broken structure

The operation to rescue labourers stuck in the partially-collapsed Silkyara tunnel has succeeded after 17 days of the rescue operation.

The remaining parts of the auger machine stuck in the rubble at Silkyara tunnel, where 41 labourers have been stranded for the last 15 days, were removed early on Monday.
