The state government has asked for seven weeks to decide on granting the sanction, the court calls it 'wilful delay'.

The remark comes in the wake of Kejriwal's detention by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a case related to money laundering linked to the excise policy.

The RTI petition, filed with the state public information officer, sought details like the number of applications submitted for obtaining sanction plans between January 1, 2010 and March 18, 2024, and how many of them were sanctioned and rejected.

As per the data, TMC the second largest recipient of electoral bonds from April 2019 and January 2024.

“An under-construction five-storeyed building collapsed around midnight. Two persons were killed and at least seven people were injured,” said city mayor Firhad Hakim. Police and disaster management teams swiftly evacuated 13 people, while the search is on for survivors who may be trapped under the rubble.

The high court’s decision was based on concerns over the state police’s handling of the matter and the alleged political influence of the accused, Sheikh. In its order, the high court division bench noted that the state police is being biased and every attempt was being made to delay the investigation.

"The 'Modi ki guarantee' has zero warranty. Only Mamata Banerjee and the TMC keep the promises. The BJP and its leaders are outsiders and anti-Bengal and that is why they have withheld the funds due to the state," he said. 

"We are organising a rally at Brigade Parade Grounds after a long time. It is going to be a historic event. Our party supremo Mamata Banerjee will give a message which we will take to every nook and corner of West Bengal and ensure the defeat of the BJP in all the 42 Lok Sabha seats of the state." 

Gopal Sarkar, who previously served as OC in the Basirhat police district, has been appointed as Biswajit Shanpui’s replacement.
