The ban on Tehreek-e-Hurriyat under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act was confirmed on June 22 by a tribunal headed by Justice Sachin Datta of the Delhi High Court. Another tribunal led by Justice Datta confirmed the ban on the Muslim League Jammu and Kashmir (Masrat Alam faction) under the UAPA.

Upholding the ban, the tribunal ruled that the two organisations were engaged in secessionist activities in the valley, with support from across the border, to merge Jammu and Kashmir with Pakistan and establish Islamic rule in the Union Territory.
