The United States and China are set to resume military-to-military communications in the coming months, according to US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin. This announcement follows his meeting with Chinese counterpart Dong Jun in Singapore on the sidelines of the Shangri-La Dialogue.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry has expressed strong opposition to the recent visit of US lawmakers to Taiwan, emphasising that Beijing opposes any military contact between the US and Taiwan and any attempts to arm the island.

China has delivered a stern warning to the United States, cautioning against any support for what it terms as "Taiwan independence." The statement comes in response to remarks by an unnamed US official urging Beijing to exercise restraint concerning the cross-strait situation.
