Haryana Chief Secretary T V S N Prasad issued stringent directives to the civil and police administration to check within the next 10 days, the fitness of every school bus in their districts even as a committee was set up to probe the factors leading to the accident. 

"We had complained about the driver to school authorities several times but they failed to change him," parents of one of the students cited.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed profound grief and offered condolences over the tragic school bus accident in Haryana's Mahendragarh district, which claimed the lives of five children and left 15 others injured.

The Haryana government has ordered a probe after a school bus carrying several children met with an accident, resulting in the death of six children and several injuries in Mahendragarh on Thursday.

Deputy Commissioner Monika Gupta said it was “a matter of grave concern” that the private school was being run despite it being a government holiday on account of Eid.

The school was open despite Eid on Thursday, which is a gazetted holiday. Authorities have launched an investigation into the matter and are questioning school officials.
