The Supreme Court of India has recently requested the Centre to respond to a petition regarding the indefinite detention of Rohingya asylum seekers and refugees in the country.

A public interest litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking the release of Rohingya refugees who have been detained indefinitely in India for two years or more.

The NIA, which registered the case in October 2023, found that the trafficked individuals were being coerced into hard labor for low wages and were exploited under the threat of arrest.
