The Supreme Court of India has recently requested the Centre to respond to a petition regarding the indefinite detention of Rohingya asylum seekers and refugees in the country.

Uttar Pradesh ATS arrests four illegal Rohingya immigrants, including three women, traveling to Delhi by train with fake IDs. Identified as Aamir Hamza (21), Meena Jahan (19), Aonara Begum (19), and Sukura Begum (22) from Myanmar’s Buthidaung, they entered India via Bangladesh and boarded from Silchar, Assam to New Delhi.

The government further emphasises the dangers of unchecked immigration, particularly when a significant number of foreigners enter illegally.

According to the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS Aceh), 42 men, 18 women, and nine children were safely brought to port, but fears persist for the fate of those still missing.

The Centre has underscored its stance on the issue of Rohingya refugees in India, emphasising that a blanket acceptance of foreigners as refugees, particularly those who have entered the country illegally, cannot be endorsed. 

The Supreme Court has agreed to hear a plea in March regarding the release of Rohingya refugees who are allegedly detained "illegally and arbitrarily" in jails and detention centers across India.

In a bold stance against the Centre's decision, the Mizoram Assembly has adopted a resolution opposing the proposed fencing of the India-Myanmar border and the scrapping of the Free Movement Regime (FMR) with Myanmar.

Mahmud emphasised Bangladesh's "zero tolerance" policy towards terrorism and discussed key issues including defence cooperation and the Teesta river water dispute during his visit to India.
