India's tennis representation at the Paris Olympics concluded on the first day. Sumit Nagal, Rohan Bopanna and N Sriram Balaji, the men's doubles duo, exited after being defeated in their initial matches by French opponents on Sunday.

The 44-year-old Bopanna wrote to AITA and marked TOPS in the mail, conveying his decision - a development confirmed by the national federation.

"Through this program, we aim to not only nurture their athletic talents but also empower them with education and life skills that will shape their future," said Bopanna, who recently became the oldest world number one on the ATP Tour.

The rare setback notwithstanding, Bopanna and Ebden have enjoyed a good run on the circuit, winning the Indian Wells Masters last year which made the 43-year-old Indian the oldest ever ATP Masters 1000 champion.

In a high-quality game of tennis, second-seeded Bopanna and Ebden won 7-6(0) 7-5 against the Italian team in the final that lasted one hour and 39 minutes.
