Justice Jay Sengupta ordered that no coercive steps be taken against her and other petitioners till June 14 by the police in the suo motu case lodged by it on May 12 over protests held in front of Sandeshkhali police station.

"Women from humble backgrounds rising high in politics and carving a niche for themselves is still a big challenge in the country and Himachal Pradesh is no exception. At present, women constitute about 49 per cent of the total voters in the state but representation is not even one-fourth and this is a cause of serious concern." 

Patra, who has been fielded by the BJP from Basirhat, said TMC workers attacked her while she was campaigning for LS polls.

Patra also shot off a letter to the National Commission for Scheduled Castes, alleging that Bhattacharyya, the TMC nominee from Tamluk Lok Sabha seat and head of the party’s social media cell, made the details of her personal information and bank accounts public.

In a post on X, the TMC’s Tamluk candidate and the party’s social media wing head Debangshu Bhattacharya claimed that Patra had availed the state-sponsored health insurance scheme in 2021.

Patra, known for her vocal stance against the reported injustices perpetrated by Sheikh and his associates, was chosen by the BJP to contest from Basirhat, the area encompassing Sandeshkhali.
