The Supreme Court on Monday refused to stay the order of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly Speaker disqualifying six Congress rebels, who had cross-voted in the recent Rajya Sabha polls in the state.

The Supreme Court has scheduled March 18 as the date for hearing the plea filed by six rebel Congress MLAs from Himachal Pradesh challenging the decision of the Assembly Speaker to disqualify them.

Sukhu said while speaking to reporters on Friday at Palampur, “MLAs have been kept under CRPF security. Is this how democracy will remain strong? Horse-trading weakens democracy.”
