After offering prayers, the members of a supervisory committee set up by the Odisha government proceeded for the shifting of valuables from the Ratna Bhandar.

There will be snakes which are believed by devotees to be guarding the valuables present at the Ratna Bhandar. Politically, the BJP had promised that it would make efforts to reopen the treasury if it won the polls.

The Ratna Bhandar of the Jagannath temple will be opened today at 1.28 pm.

This historic event will facilitate an inventory of the temple's precious ornaments and valuables, last accessed in 1978.

The temple treasury was last opened 46 years ago in 1978 and the reopening of it was a major political issue in the state during the recently concluded elections.
