Congress candidates were leading from Amritsar, Jalandhar, Fatehgarh Sahib, Gurdaspur, Patiala, and Ludhiana seats and the AAP was ahead in Hoshiarpur, Sangrur, and Anandpur Sahib, the trends showed.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) have not fielded any women candidates in the political battlefield.

Once a dominant political force in Punjab, the Shiromani Akali Dal is now struggling for its space to retain just one seat of Bathinda, which has been represented by Harsimrat Kaur Badal, the wife of Sukhbir Singh Badal since 2009. 

Compared to the 2022, the battle this time for Mann is tougher. IN 2022, he rode an anti-incumbency wave against the Congress and an overall disillusionment and alienation with the traditional political parties in Punjab. 

'Channi', 'Bittu', 'Tinu', 'Kaka', 'Pappi', 'Sherry', 'Raja', 'Rinku' and 'Meet' are nicknames of some of the contestants who are in the fray for the June 1 general election in the state.

Political analysts have often pointed out that perhaps the only two things that can be predicted about Punjab and its voters is the fact that the state has a penchant for voting out incumbent governments and never voting on sectarian lines.

Aam Aadmi Party's Jagmohan Kang, who remained the former Minister and Ex-MLA from Kharar, rejoined the Congress on Monday in Delhi. 

Jaishankar in support of Taranjit Sandhu, cited, "We have full confidence that the people of Amritsar will elect him and will send him to Delhi. He will be a very good MP in Parliament. He is the most popular ambassador of India." 

Khaira was accompanied by senior party leader and former chief minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal and other leaders. 

Gandhi, a doctor by profession, won the Lok Sabha election as an Aam Aadmi Party candidate in 2014 by defeating Kaur, a Congress candidate back then from Patiala.

With this, the Congress has announced its candidates in all 13 parliamentary constituencies in Punjab.

MLA Lalpura said that all of the workers who switched to AAP will be given full respect, claiming that the Congress leaders are becoming turncoats as they are not respected by the grand old party fold.
