Kaur, the wife of former Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh, condemned the unannounced power cuts and said it has become difficult for people to stay indoors due to power cuts while all small and big industries across the district are bearing huge financial losses.

Preneet Kaur and the AAP candidate fielded against her, Balbir Singh filed their nominations in Patiala while the AAP's Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal filed his papers from Amritsar.

The rival political parties--SAD and Congress, rushed to make political capital out of the incident, although the BJP candidate was not even remotely linked with the death. 

The ruling family has continued the political tradition in the post-independent India also, first through Maharaja Yadvinder Singh, a great nationalist, who had a great role supporting Sardar Patel in a great way to unify all the princely states, and continued by his son Capt Amarinder Singh, who rose to become the Chief Minister of Punjab twice.

Kaur, who is the wife of ex-Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, joined the saffron party at BJP's headquarters.  

Speculations are that Kaur will be fielded from the same Lok Sabha seat - Patiala, which she held since 1999 (13th Lok Sabha election), despite earlier considerations favoring Jai Inder Kaur.
