Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has voiced his concerns over the situation of minority Hindus in Bangladesh, criticising the opposition INDIA bloc for their silence on the issue. He alleged that the opposition's quiet stance is motivated by a fear of losing their vote bank.

The accusation that the US was involved in the ousting of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been dismissed as "laughable" and "false" by the US. 

The former Indian Minister of State for External Affairs further remarked that had India not extended a helping hand, it could have led to negative repercussions on the international stage, potentially damaging India’s relationships with other nations.

While India’s security concerns are legitimate, an overly narrow focus on stability through support for the current regime risks alienating significant portions of the Bangladeshi population.

The United States has significantly supported Bangladesh financially, with over USD 212 million provided in aid during the fiscal year 2023, according to State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller. In a recent media briefing, Miller detailed this substantial financial commitment, highlighting its role in economic development and health assistance for Bangladesh.

The United States has called for calm in Bangladesh and is urging that the formation of an interim government be both democratic and inclusive. This call for restraint follows the recent resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who has left the country amid ongoing unrest.

On Tuesday, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla announced that External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will address Parliament regarding the unfolding situation in Bangladesh. Birla informed the Lok Sabha that Jaishankar would present a suo moto statement at 3:30 PM. Additionally, the minister is scheduled to provide a statement on the situation in Bangladesh at 2:30 PM in the Rajya Sabha.

On Tuesday morning, a C-130J transport aircraft of the Bangladesh Air Force departed from the Hindon Air Force base around 9 AM IST, heading towards Bangladesh. This flight is closely monitored by Indian security agencies.

The Indian intelligence community has raised significant concerns about the involvement of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Chinese entities in the recent political upheaval in Bangladesh. This unrest, which led to the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has reportedly been influenced by external forces aiming to destabilise the region.

Hasina, who arrived in India on Monday after resigning as Bangladesh's Prime Minister, was initially set to travel to London but is now exploring alternative options.

The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) has called on the Indian government to take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of Hindus and other minority communities in Bangladesh amidst the ongoing unrest.
